It’s Okay to Ask the Hard Questions

“Is this abuse?” or “What should I do?” — these questions matter. Intimate partner violence (IPV) and domestic violence touch every family, every community. But when you’re pregnant, parenting, or building a community of care, the impact can go deeper. Violence at home can harm physical and emotional health, increase stress during pregnancy, and disrupt the safety and stability every family deserves.

Why It Matters

Research shows that about 5.4% of women with a recent live birth reported some form of IPV during pregnancy (emotional 5.2%, physical 1.5%, sexual 1.0%). cdc.gov+1

Violence during or around pregnancy is linked to delayed prenatal care, increased risk of depression or substance use during pregnancy, higher chances of preterm birth or low birthweight. cdc.gov+1

Because of this, we at Families Forward Resource Center hold space for healing, empowerment, and safety. Every parent and child deserves a home filled with love, stability, and support.

We also honor the vital work of organizations like SafeHouse Denver, whose shelter, advocacy, and dedicated services stand as a lifeline for those seeking safety and new beginnings.
